Klimatanpassning av järnvägsinfrastrukturunderhåll -(ClimRail)

Climate adaptation of railway infrastructure maintenance

Mål, syfte och förväntad nytta

The goal of ClimRail is to develop decision-support methodologies and tools based on Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) concept, to adapt the maintenance program of railway tracks, to the adverse effects of climate change.

The objectives:

-Developing and validating a risk-based method for assessing the impact of climate change on the functionality of plain tracks and identifying the vulnerable track sections which are critical.

-Developing and validating a decision-support methodology based on RCM for determining an effective maintenance adaptation solution.

-Demonstrating and testing the proposed methods on the Swedish Iron-ore line.

-Reviewing the relevant maintenance regulations and suggestions for adaptation to climate change.

Planerade arbetspaket och förväntade leveranser

The project consists of four work packages (WP). WP1 deals with Project management. WP2 deals with risk and vulnerability assessment of track Functionality. WP3 deals with the development of RCM based decision support framework for climate adaptation of track maintenance. WP4 deals with dissemination and exploitation.

The project outcome will ensure that railway tracks resist, absorb, and recover from the effects of natural hazards in a timely and efficient manner. This includes the preservation and restoration of their essential functions. It also minimizes resource consumption and hence eliminates the environmental impacts. The outcome enables a large socio-economic gain by providing well-functioning rail transportation and improving capacity usage.
